Fatal shooting

A 16-year-old boy was fatally shot near a North Las Vegas high school this afternoon in a fight involving 40 to 50 people, according to police.

Officers were called to investigate a report of shots fired about 4 p.m. outside Mojave High School, 5302 Goldfield St., near East Washburn Road and North 5th Street, North Las Vegas Police spokesman Aaron Patty said.

Officers found the teen victim, who was taken to University Medical Center, where he died, Patty said.

School had gotten out about an hour prior, and the large group, which included students, congregated off campus and fought, he said.

At least two shots were fired during the fight, he said.

Police are interviewing multiple witnesses, and there are road closures in the area around the school, Patty said.

Police could not immediately confirm if the teen victim was a student.

No suspects are in custody, and there's no indication yet of what caused the fight, Patty said.

Police are asking anyone with information on the shooting to call them at 702-633-9111.
