Health officials say dessert linked to E. coli cases in Reno

Health officials in Northern Nevada say a dessert food manufactured and sold in Reno is linked to an E. coli outbreak that sickened nearly two dozen people.

The Washoe County Health District said Friday that a dessert made by Reno Provisions was consumed by several customers at the Twisted Fork restaurant.

District health officer Kevin Dick says that common factor led investigators to test food and equipment at Reno Provisions.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports (http://on.rgj.com/1T6ygE2) that owner Mark Estee said in a statement that Reno Provisions is offering "our deepest apologies" and is taking aggressive steps to ensure its facilities are safe.

The south Reno restaurant will reopen Tuesday after voluntarily closing Nov. 9.

Officials say 21 confirmed or probable E. coli cases have been reported since mid-October.
