Regents to vote on future of UNLV student-run radio

Officials at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas are considering handing over the school's student-run radio station to Nevada Public Radio.

KLAS-TV reports that KUNV 91.5 FM has been UNLV's college radio station since 1981. Next month, the Board of Regents will vote on whether to have the state public radio take over.

Many students expressed concern during a Tuesday meeting that KUNV's sense of freedom and hands-on experience could be lost if Nevada Public Radio takes over.

Kylie O'Rourke, a student involved with KUNV, worries that student-run programming would be wiped out. Student adviser Dave Nourse says the hands-on experience is invaluable.

NPR says it wants to target a younger audience and president Flo Rogers calls the proposal a win-win, saying UNLV can reinvest the money to improve life for students.
