Arbor View defense scores as much as offense in win at Desert Oasis

Arbor View Faces Basic in High School Football

L.E. Baskow

Arbor View players run out onto the field as they ready to battle Basic in high school football on Friday, September 25, 2015.

John Gibbons is typically easy to spot on the Arbor View sidelines as the team’s most energetic coaching presence.

On Friday night at Desert Oasis, the veteran assistant and current defensive coordinator was the simplest to find because of his contentment. Gibbons’ defense scored three touchdowns as Arbor View rolled over Desert Oasis 45-6.

“Our defense was out there more than our offense and it’s always great when those guys can score some touchdowns,” Arbor View coach Dan Barnson said. “It makes for a happy defensive coordinator.”

Southern Utah commit Bishop Jones had the longest touchdown on a 60-yard fumble recovery. Staycee Robinson and Greg Weaver scored off of fumbles closer to the end zone.

Jones also scored on offense, catching a pass from Hayden Bollinger, who threw for 81 yards. Morris Jackson gashed the Diamondbacks for 127 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.

Deago Stubbs recorded five carries for 59 yards and a touchdown as Arbor View improved to 5-1, dropping Desert Oasis to 4-2.
