The Cheyenne High football team is making it look easy.

One week after winning by 44 points, the Desert Shields recorded a shutout today against visiting Pahrump Valley, improving to 3-1 in the Division I-A Sunset League with a 61-0 victory.

“It’s good to put two wins together like that in two weeks,” said Gerald Robinson, the Cheyenne defensive coordinator.

A.J McConnico passed for more than 200 yards and three touchdowns to lead Cheyenne, finding Corwin Bush for all three touchdowns. Running back David Walker had 155 rushing yards in the first half alone and finished with four touchdowns.

His backup, Cajuin Jackson, had a 35-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

The Cheyenne defense, though, has been the strength. It has surrendered just six points in the past two weeks.

Senior linebacker George Carmona is the defensive leader, and one of the classification’s best, and John Tarver had an interception tonight.

“George Carmona is my rock in the middle of the defense, man,” Robinson said. “He makes my job easier. He is a heck of a run stopper. Just so physical.”
