Triathlon will cause lane and road closures in Henderson, Lake Mead area

A triathlon Sunday in Henderson and the Lake Mead National Recreation Area will be an endurance test for participants, but it may also prove to be one for drivers navigating their way through lane and road closures.

The Ironman 70.3 Silverman triathlon kicks off about 7 a.m. Sunday at Lake Mead, according to the Ironman website.

Participants swim 1.2 miles at Boulder Beach before embarking on a 56-mile bike ride to the Henderson Pavilion, at 200 S. Green Valley Parkway, near Paseo Verde Parkway, according to the website.

That's followed by a 13.1-mile run through neighborhoods in Henderson.

The earliest street and lane closures because of the triathlon begin about 6 a.m., and closures will go as late as 6 p.m., according to the city of Henderson's traffic-impacts statement.

Lake Mead traffic impacts

• Vehicles near the north gate entrance off Lake Mead Parkway should use care and expect delays because of heavy bicycle traffic between 6 and 10 a.m.

• Officials also are warning drivers on Northshore Road and Lakeshore Road to expect delays and use caution between 6:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

• Those entering the north gate or Northshore should be extremely careful. People launching boats can avoid heavy delays by using Hemenway Harbor.

Traffic impacts and official detours

• Both directions of Lake Mead Parkway from Lake Las Vegas Parkway to Warm Springs Road will be affected between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m.

• Boulder Highway between Lake Mead Parkway and Warm Springs Road will be closed from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Use U.S. 95 or Sunset Road.

• Northbound Eastgate Road between Commercial Way and Warm Springs Road will be closed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Use Lake Mead Parkway.

• Northbound Commercial Way will be closed to Warm Springs Road from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Use Eastgate Road via Lake Mead Parkway.

• Westbound Warm Springs Road from Lake Mead Parkway to Gibson Road will be closed between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. Use U.S. 95 or Valle Verde Drive.

• Northbound Gibson Road will be closed from Auto Show Drive to Warm Springs Road, and the southbound slow lane from Warm Springs Road to Horizon Ridge Parkway will be closed. The lanes will be closed between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. For a northbound detour, use Sunset Way or Warm Springs Road via Stephanie Street. Southbound drivers can exit Gibson using the eastbound 215 Beltway.

• Westbound Paseo Verde Parkway will be shut down between Arroyo Grande Boulevard and Desert Shadow Trail from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eastbound Paseo Verde Parkway will be affected between Desert Shadow Trail West and Desert Shadow Trail East from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Westbound drivers can use Valle Verde Drive or Green Valley Parkway.

• Murmuring Sands will be closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Use Glistening Cloud Drive or Thunder Hills Terrace via Valle Verde Drive.

• Palomino Village Drive will be closed to Mountain Vista Street from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Use Glistening Cloud Drive or Thunder Hills Terrace via Valle Verde Drive.

• Traffic in the area near the Henderson Multigenerational Center will also be impacted.

• Both directions of Cielo Abierto Way will be affected from Horizon Ridge Parkway to Paseo Verde Parkway between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

• Both directions of Desert Shadow Trail East will be affected to Summit Crossing Lane between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

• Benji Drive will be closed to Green Valley Parkway from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• The northbound slow lane of Green Valley Parkway will be closed from Paseo Verde Parkway to Horizon Ridge Parkway between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Use Carnegie Street or Horizon Ridge Parkway.

• The west entrance of High Mesa Drive will be closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Use the east entrance via Horizon Ridge Parkway.

• The westbound lanes of Horizon Ridge Parkway will be affected from High Mesa Drive to Green Valley Parkway between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

• Auto Mall Drive will be closed westbound to Gibson Road between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Use U.S. 95.

• Valley Auto Drive will be closed westbound to Gibson Road between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Use Auto Show Drive via U.S. 95.

• The west entrance to Las Palmas Entrada Avenue will be closed between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Use the east entrance.
