Man in wheelchair hit by truck, killed crossing street

A man in a wheelchair died after he was hit by a pickup truck Monday night as he crossed Desert Inn Road near Maryland Parkway, according to Metro Police.

The 65-year-old man was not in a crosswalk when he was hit about 9 p.m., police said. He was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he later died, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.

The accident marks the second time in less than a month that a person in a wheelchair was hit by a vehicle near the same intersection.

A 73-year-old man was seriously injured about noon Sept. 19 when he fell out of his wheelchair and was struck by a car on Maryland Parkway near Desert Inn, according to police.

Raymond Hill of Las Vegas came down a ramp from a business in his chair and fell into the road, police said. The driver swerved in an attempt to miss Hill, who was struck in the head by the car’s bumper, police said.

Hill was still in the hospital today.
