A man was arrested early this morning after Metro Police say he kicked and punched an officer and attempted to choke a police dog at a northwest valley house.
Police were called about 2:15 a.m. to Target at 6480 Sky Pointe Drive, near Buffalo Drive, where a burglary was reported, Officer Michael Rodriguez said.
An investigation led police to a house in the 7100 block of Dramatic Way, about two miles from the store, and they searched the house for the suspect, Rodriguez said.
Officers found the suspect, and the man proceeded to attack the dog and the officer handling it, he said.
The dog bit the suspect several times, and the suspect tried to choke the canine, also kicking and punching the handler, he said.
The suspect was taken into custody and transported to University Medical Center, Rodriguez said.
He was released from the hospital and arrested on counts including battery of a protected person and mistreating a police animal, he said.
Neither the dog nor handler was seriously injured, Rodriguez said.
