Police say driver intentionally struck, killed woman

Updated Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015 | 2:59 p.m.

A woman killed when police allege she was intentionally hit by a vehicle Monday in Spring Valley has been identified as 42-year-old Gabriela Martin De Mendoza, according to the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

A city of residence was not immediately available for Martin De Mendoza, who died of multiple blunt-force injuries, the Coroner’s Office said.

Metro Police were called about 5:10 p.m. to the 5500 block of Donaldson Court, near Russell and Lindell roads, after a report of a vehicle hitting a wall, Lt. Jeff Goodwin said.

Police allege the driver intentionally sped up to hit Martin De Mendoza before plowing into a home.

The driver fled on foot but was stopped by a witness until officers arrived, police said.

The driver and the woman were seen arguing before the driver made a U-turn and accelerated toward her, police said. Investigators are trying to determine if the driver knew Martin De Mendoza.

Officials say a DUI test at the scene shows alcohol was a factor and that the driver will likely face murder and DUI charges.
