Boy, 8, who shot himself in southwest valley identified

A juvenile who died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in a southwest valley neighborhood Saturday evening has been identified as 8-year-old Clayton James Singleton of Las Vegas, according to the Clark County Coroner's office.

Metro Police were alerted at 5:26 p.m. to a juvenile suffering from an apparent gunshot wound in the 9100 block of Wine Cellar Avenue, near Pebble and Fort Apache roads.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Metro's Abuse and Neglect division determined the child lives at the residence and that no adults were present during the incident, according to a Metro news release. The gunshot was deemed to be self-inflicted with a gun belonging to someone who lives at the home.

The incident remains under investigation.
