Court won’t stop 2nd election over representation of School District workers

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Supreme Court has refused to block a second election to decide who will be the bargaining agent for classified employees of the Clark County School District.

The Education Support Employees Association sought a writ to stop a second election backed by the Teamsters Union Local 14.

The court said Thursday there were two District Court decisions that were never appealed by the Education Support Employees Association.

The state Local Government Employee-Management Relations Board ordered a second election with the outcome to be determined by a majority of the voters.

The Education Support Employees Association says it has been recognized for 40 years as the bargaining agent for the classified employees. The Teamsters believe the majority of classified workers support a change.

An election in February included a “no union” choice on the ballot.

The board decided a second election should be held with just the two competing organizations on the ballot.
