Las Vegas casino quiz: Can you name property by seeing its door handle?

Door pull test X 101315

Brian Deka

Look carefully at this South Strip resort’s door handles, and you’ll see an elephant. That’s a clue.

You know Bally’s was once MGM Grand, Westgate Las Vegas started life as The International, and The D Las Vegas used to be Fitzgerald’s.

But how well do you really know the casinos of Las Vegas? Can you tell the property by its unique door handle? Did you even realize casinos had unique door handles?

Well, some do, and like the properties' twinkling signs, stylized logos and glittering fountains, they're designed to help the casino stand out to visitors. Individualized handles — also known as door pulls — are part of Las Vegas' rich design history. Find a bejeweled Sahara door pull for sale, and you've got a genuine Las Vegas historical artifact.

Other handles are more generic, but are different nonetheless.

So back to the present: Are you an expert on the city's current resorts? Here's the first of an occasional series of tests designed to separate the casino pros from the Joes.
