UNLV men’s soccer head coach Rich Ryerson watches soccer practice at UNLV Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014.

The UNLV soccer program set a record for attendance Friday with 1,740 fans at Peter Johann Memorial Field for a 3-2 loss to nationally ranked Seattle.

The local soccer community has increased its support of the program over the past two seasons, including heavily attended tailgates before games. The previous attendance mark was 1,200.

“First of all from a crowd perspective the community support has been fantastic, especially in the last two years,” UNLV coach Rich Ryerson said in a statement. “There have been a lot of people working hard for us.”

Seattle, the leader of the Western Athletic Conference, scored the game winner in the 87th minute. UNLV plays in the WAC because soccer isn’t offered in the Mountain West.

Danny Musovski, a local product from Liberty High, scored both UNLV goals.

UNLV closes out its home schedule at 1 p.m. Sunday against Utah Valley.

“Tonight, the atmosphere here is what the guys want to play in front of,” Ryerson said. “It was exciting, we competed against the best team in the conference and held our own. We are disappointed in losing, but we’ll take what we can learn from this and apply it in our game on Sunday.”
