Event offers help navigating Affordable Care Act

Nevada Health Link is hosting a health fair Sunday to kick off this year’s open enrollment period for insurance under the Affordable Care Act.

The event will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at College of Southern Nevada’s West Charleston Campus, 6375 W. Charleston Blvd., in Building D.

Attendees can speak with licensed insurance brokers and certified enrollment assisters for help navigating the application process and to receive information about eligibility requirements and plans. Attendees also can schedule appointments with licensed brokers if they don’t enroll Sunday.

Health service providers will be on site to offer free blood-pressure checks and vision exams.

The enrollment period runs through Jan. 31.

Anyone without health coverage in 2016 faces tax fines of either 2.5 percent of his or her yearly household income or $695 per person, whichever is higher. The maximum fine per family is $2,085.
