Police: Driver crashes and flees, leaving her baby in car

Updated Friday, Oct. 30, 2015 | 7:45 p.m.

A woman refused to pull over for a traffic stop near Decatur Boulevard and Alta Drive today before crashing into a wall and fleeing, injuring a toddler and two adults, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

A trooper tried to stop the Nissan Altima about noon after spotting the woman using a cell phone, but she drove off, highway patrol Trooper Loy Hixson said.

Her 1-year-old baby was in the car, as was an adult female and that woman's 2-year-old child, he said.

Highway Patrol did not pursue the car but later received a report it had crashed into a wall near Alta and Upland Boulevard, less than a mile away, he said.

The driver fled on foot and was taken into custody not far from the scene on unspecified charges, Hixson said.

The woman passenger was hurt, as was her toddler, and both were taken to University Medical Center with injuries believed to be nonlife-threatening, he said. The driver's baby was not injured.

A man working on a vehicle in front of a residence near the wall was hit by debris and thrown several feet, Hixson said.

He suffered serious injuries and was also taken to UMC, Hixson said.
