Partnership gives cancer patients access to cutting-edge clinical trials

Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada has announced a partnership with a nationally known cancer center based in Los Angeles.

The University of Southern California’s Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center and CCCN have entered into a clinical affiliation agreement, which officials say will bolster Southern Nevada patients’ quality of care and access to clinical trials.

The USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center — one of the original eight such centers in the United States, as designated by the National Cancer Institute — participates in more than 200 clinical trials, officials said.

The partnership will give Southern Nevada patients access to highly specialized consultative care and treatments, including sarcoma surgeries and pancreatic laparoscopic surgeries, and combined access to 370 cutting-edge clinical trials, officials said.

In addition, USC medical specialists can work with physicians from the CCCN to keep patients in Southern Nevada.

“USC and CCCN are reputable and proven names in cancer care and, together, can make that much more of a positive impact on patients in Southern Nevada and beyond,” Dr. James D. Sanchez, medical oncologist and practice president of CCCN, said in a statement.

“With increased and direct access to clinical trials, treatments and complex surgeries available right here in our community, patients will have no need to cross state borders to receive the highest level of cancer care available,” Sanchez said.

CCCN is a multidisciplinary oncology group that has 14 treatment centers and offices throughout Southern Nevada. The group participates in more than 170 clinical research studies each year and has played a role in 54 FDA-approved cancer therapies, officials said.
