51s stumble again amid late-season title run

The Las Vegas 51s' chances of winning a division title are officially in peril.

With their 10-1 loss to El Paso on Thursday, the 51s emphatically lost a crucial four-game home series with the Chihuahuas, with whom they're battling for the Pacific Coast League's Pacific Southern title. Not only that, but Las Vegas suffered its sixth loss in seven games as it fell behind El Paso by a half-game in the division race.

But there's hope: The 51s close the regular season with a four-game home series against Tacoma, the last-place team in the four-team Pacific Northern Division, while El Paso finishes with four games at Reno. The Aces, who are third in the Pacific Northern, are 38-29 at home while Tacoma is 30-38 on the road.

Thursday's game was all El Paso (75-64) as the 51s (75-65) managed only five hits and never led.

Daniel McCutcheon (9-8) got the win, while Seth Lugo (2-2) was the losing pitcher. Centerfielder Brandon Nimmo homered for Las Vegas' only run.
