Woman killed, boyfriend arrested in shooting at apartment

A woman was found dead of a gunshot wound Wednesday night in an apartment near East Owens and North Eastern avenues, and her 24-year-old boyfriend has been arrested, according to Metro Police.

Officers in the 100 block of North 21st Street were flagged down by a person saying they heard a gunshot about 11 p.m., police said. Officers checked a nearby apartment and found the woman dead inside, police said.

Investigators believe the woman was home with her boyfriend when they began to fight, police said. Another person also was at the home, police said.

The boyfriend, whom police identified as 24-year-old Johnny Medrano, apparently shot his girlfriend before fleeing to a nearby home, where he was arrested, police said.

Medrano was booked at the Clark County jail on counts of murder and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, police said.

The woman’s name will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
