A house fire early today in the northwest valley caused an estimated $70,000 in damage, Las Vegas Fire and Rescue reported.

At 12:43 a.m., firefighters arrived at 6220 Don Zarembo Ave., near Lake Mead and Jones boulevards, where they found flames and smoke coming from the front windows of a one-story house, the department said in a press release.

Crews were told by neighbors that children were possibly in the house, the release said. It took about 10 minutes for firefighters to contain the flames, which were found in the bedroom area, the release said.

The fire damaged the bedrooms, the roof and a hallway and caused heat and smoke damage throughout the rest of the house, the release said.

No one was home at the time of the fire. A relative suggested the two adults and three children who lived in the house might have gone away for the weekend, according to the release.

An uninjured dog found in the backyard was taken by the relative.

The incident remains under investigation.
