A 31-year-old woman was in critical condition after a single-vehicle crash in the northwest part of the valley Saturday morning, according to Metro Police.

At 3:08 a.m., the woman was driving a 2006 Toyota Corolla north on Durango Drive, just north of West Tropical Parkway, when for unknown reasons she struck the center median and then a 30-foot palm tree, police said in a news release.

The woman, who was not wearing a safety belt, was thrown from the Toyota as it spun counter-clockwise away from the palm tree, the release said.

The palm tree was knocked over.

The woman was taken to University Medical Center Trauma Center with critical injuries, according to the release.

The incident remains under investigation.
