Showers and thunderstorms popped up in parts of the Las Vegas Valley this afternoon, and the remnants of a former hurricane are providing a chance of rain Tuesday as well, according to the National Weather Service.

Rain fell in the southwest and northeast valley today, with a gauge measuring 0.16 inches of rain since about 1 p.m. in the Nellis Air Force Base area, Weather Service meteorologist Caleb Steele said.

Winds are between 10 to 20 mph across the valley, but gusts reached 35 to 45 mph near Henderson as showers hit, according to meteorologist Clay Morgan.

The showers are expected to trail off this evening, but there’s a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Tuesday, according to the weather service.

The rain is the result of moisture remaining from former Hurricane Linda, Steele said.

The high temperature hit 97 degrees today at McCarran International Airport, and a low of 77 is expected tonight, according to the weather service. The normal high temperature for this date is 95 degrees, with a low of 72, Steele said.

The weather should begin to dry out Wednesday, he said.

High temperatures also should cool down, with a high of 88 expected Tuesday and Wednesday and lows expected to stay in the 70s, he said.

Toward the end of the week, temperatures should warm back up, he said.
