Court won’t let man withdraw guilty plea in murder case

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Supreme Court has rejected a petition from Andre J. Hardiman to withdraw his guilty plea in the strangulation of his ex-wife in front of her 6-year-old daughter in Las Vegas.

Hardiman, now serving a life sentence, maintained he was coerced by his lawyer to plead guilty to first-degree murder. He asked for a hearing to show he did not freely enter his plea.

The court on Wednesday said the District Court record shows Hardiman, also known as Andre J. King, was not coerced into making the plea.

Hardiman was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for strangling his ex-wife Sabrina King in April 2008 while the victim’s daughter was in the room, according to court records. He later drove King’s body to a construction site, where he slashed her face with an ax, cut off her hands and set fire to the body, according to records.
