Gaudy numbers for Legacy, Geeslin in blowout victory

high school football media day 2015

Legacy High football players Derriyon Shaw, Tanoa Alapati, AJ Sotelo, and Caden Sink before the 2015 Season.

Legacy running back Tiger Geeslin only touched the ball 11 times Friday night against Valley High.

Those carries were all he needed.

The senior tailback finished the night with 221 total yards and four touchdowns, and had another two touchdowns that amounted to 125 yards called back by holding penalties.

“He’s running strong and he’s showing balance like I’ve never seen,” said Legacy coach John Isola. “He’s an animal.”

Legacy (3-1) rode Geeslin to a 48-0 halftime lead and earned its first victory of the season in its 84-0 demolition of the Valley Vikings (0-3).

Justin Whitehead also had eight carries for 91 rushing yards and two touchdowns for the Longhorns.

Quarterback Tanoa Alapati didn’t have to contribute much to the blowout win, but he completed three passes for 79 yards, and all three found the end zone.

The win for Legacy comes after three straight losses to tough competition, but Isola is glad his team was tested early.

“We could have started off 3-0 against lesser teams, and ended up with a false sense of security,” Isola said, “but we wouldn’t have been prepared for teams like Gorman, Liberty and Palo Verde once the playoffs rolled around.”
