Thousands of people tagged a Metro Police car during a concert Saturday night — and the officers loved it.

During a Christian-music concert at Cashman Field Center, people plastered the car with colorful sticky notes offering words of support and encouragement. It was an event planned by SOS Radio 90.5 FM in Las Vegas in advance of Thank a Cop Week, which began Sunday.

Scott Herrold, program director and morning show host for the Christian-music station, asked the police department to bring car to the event so people could write thank you notes to the officers.

“There have been so many stories lately about local cops being pushed back and attacked, causing them to be discouraged,” Herrold said. “So we wanted to encourage and thank them for serving our community.”

In one incident, two officers were stopped at a traffic light on Sept. 6 when a man walked up and fired several shots into their car, hitting one of the officers in the hand, according to police.

Herrold said the number of people who took the time to participate in Saturday night’s event exceeded his expectations.

“What I thought was really cool was that people were writing notes about police officers that they knew and then sharing photos...,” he said.

The notes included messages such as "Police lives matter," "God bless you," and "You are awesome."

The officers, however, might have been most impressed by the gesture. When they returned to pick up the patrol car, they were taken aback by the outpouring of support, Herrold said.

“It was neat because they didn’t want us to take the sticky notes off,” Herrold said. “They wanted more officers to see what we did.”

The concert featured music by Hawk Nelson, Ryan Stevenson and the News Boys.
