Guinn’s grandson touts rooftop solar in commercial

Solar

Bombard Electric electricians Frank Cudia and Tina Long, on the roof, and Debbie Long install solar panels on a home in Las Vegas.

The grandson of the late Republican Gov. Kenny Guinn is stumping for rooftop solar in a new ad from SolarCity.

The ad is an early push to draw attention to the November hearings in the Public Utilities Commission that will establish a long-term price structure for solar customers who sell their power to NV Energy as part of a program called net metering.

The PUC removed the cap that limited participation in net metering but has until December to finalize a new rate structure. Officials from SolarCity will be at the PUC today to make their case.

The video is the first in an online advertising campaign showcasing some of Nevada’s 6,000 solar employees. In it, Guinn introduces himself as a Republican who supports power-generating alternatives. He says his grandfather, who served from 1999 to 2007, would be a champion of solar were he alive today.

"My grandfather always believed that the people had a choice,” he said. "So the solar industry is something he would be behind. It is the free market.”
