Nevada DMV director stepping down

CARSON CITY — Troy Dillard, director of the state Department of Motor Vehicles for the last three years, is retiring.

Dillard, who has worked for the state since 1988, will leave Oct. 23.

No replacement has been named by Gov. Brian Sandoval.

The department has been criticized for long waits at its offices, particularly in the Las Vegas area.

The Legislature, at Sandoval’s request, authorized hiring of 91 new DMV workers, and the department has broken ground on a new building at its East Sahara Avenue site in Las Vegas.

Sandoval said Dillard is a “tremendous public servant” and he is sorry to see him go.
