Nevada taxable sales up 8 percent in July, beat forecast

CARSON CITY — The amount of taxable sales in Nevada jumped 8 percent in July compared with the same month a year ago.

The Nevada Department of Taxation reported Tuesday that there were $4.3 billion in taxable sales in Nevada in July. Nearly $337 million in taxes was collected off those sales, and about $85 million of that went to the state general fund.

The general fund sales tax revenue is coming in slightly higher than economists predicted it would when they made their Economic Forum forecast in May.

Sectors showing big gains included auto and parts dealers, where sales were up 14 percent. Restaurant and bar sales were up 9 percent, and food and beverage store sales were up 10 percent.
