Former law enforcement officer named chairman of Nevada Taxicab Authority

CARSON CITY — Stan Olsen, a retired law enforcement officer, has been named chairman of the Nevada Taxicab Authority, which regulates the industry in Clark County.

The appointment was announced Thursday by Gov. Brian Sandoval, who called Olsen “a highly regarded public servant.”

The authority has been criticized by drivers for permitting more taxis on the streets than needed, leading to a reduction in their revenue.

An audit released in January recommended the authority be taken over by Clark County or be put under the Nevada Transportation Authority, which regulates transportation statewide, except for taxicabs in Clark County.
