An Uber driver takes a passenger for a ride Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015, in Las Vegas.

Ride-sharing app Uber announced Friday the launch of a Spanish-speaking service in Nevada.

UberESPAÑOL, available in Las Vegas and Reno, allows riders to request a Spanish-speaking driver, said company spokeswoman Taylor Patterson. When the driver is requested, the app’s text turns entirely to Spanish.

Nevada is the fifth state where the service is offered, Patterson said. Other uberESPAÑOL markets include Los Angeles, Chicago, Phoenix and San Antonio.

The service is designed for tourists as much as locals, Patterson said, as Uber drivers can often act as “tour guides” for their riders.

“We saw a need here and we’re trying to meet it,” Patterson said. “It provides a better one-on-one experience for our riders.”

The Las Vegas launch of uberESPAÑOL will be detailed at the Latin Chamber of Commerce, 300 North 13th St., at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday. An opportunity fair for prospective Uber drivers will follow, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
