Man in custody following barricade at apartment

Updated Wednesday, April 6, 2016 | 11:04 a.m.

Metro Police responded to a barricade situation this morning at an apartment in the area of Commerce Street and New York Avenue, just north of the Stratosphere, officials said.

SWAT officers and negotiators were on the scene in the 100 block of West New York Avenue, police said. The incident originated about 5:45 a.m. with a domestic violence call, police said.

When officers arrived, a female came out of the apartment with minor injuries, reportedly the result of an attempted stabbing, police said. Officers ordered a male out of the apartment, but he refused, shut the door and was barricaded inside, police said.

Shortly before 11 a.m., police reported that the man had been taken into custody.

Streets in the area, which had been closed, were expected to reopen shortly, police said.
