Board of Finance meeting canceled because notice not posted online

CARSON CITY — For a second time, the office of state Treasurer Dan Schwartz has failed to follow Nevada’s Open Meeting Law.

The state Board of Finance cancelled its meeting Tuesday when it was disclosed that its notice of the session had not been filed on the Internet as required. The Treasurer’s Office handles the administrative tasks of the Finance Board.

Gov. Brian Sandoval, chairman of board, called off the meeting, saying the Treasurer’s Office had failed to post the meeting notice online. He apologized to those present and said the meeting would be rescheduled as soon as possible.

Schwartz, a member of the board, said his staff posted the notice everywhere else required by law and suggested the meeting could go forward. Sandoval disagreed.

“The governor was angry, and I’m upset,” Schwartz said.

A prior meeting of the board had to be rescheduled when the Treasurer’s Office failed to file a notice at least three days in advance of the meeting.
