Coroner IDs man killed in shootout with police

A gunman shot and killed by Metro Police on Monday has been identified by the Clark County Coroner’s Office as Efren Trujillo, 22, of Buckeye, Ariz.

Trujillo died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Coroner’s Office.

Officers responded about 10 p.m. to a report of shots fired in the 1900 block of Las Vegas Boulevard South, near St. Louis Avenue, police said. A man had been shot multiple times and was on the ground, police said.

Officers started to chase Trujillo after witnesses identified him as the alleged shooter, police said. During the chase Trujillo shot at officers, who returned fire, police said. He died at University Medical Center.

Investigators recovered a firearm at the scene, police said.

The victim in the original shooting also was taken to UMC, where he underwent surgery and was expected to survive, police said.
