A 2-year-old boy was hit and killed Thursday by a Clark County School District bus, according to North Las Vegas Police.

The accident was reported about 3:40 p.m. in a residential neighborhood in the 600 block of Princess Avenue, near Carey Avenue and Revere Street, police said. The child who was struck lived in the neighborhood, police said.

The Clark County Coroner's Office identified him Friday as Jose Maria Covarrubias Jr.

Rosa Torres, who lives in the neighborhood, said she felt a lot of pain seeing the boy in the street after the accident. She cautioned drivers to be careful and urged parents to “lock your gates and keep an eye on your children.”

Torres said neighborhood children often play soccer and basketball in the street and that drivers “don’t respect the speed limit.”

“Our kids can be gone in a blink of an eye,” she said.

In 2012, an 11-year-old girl was hit and killed by a school bus in the northwest valley.
