Four students detained after report of person with gun near school

Updated Friday, April 15, 2016 | 1:47 p.m.

Clark High School was locked down for several hours today as officers investigated a report of a person with a gun near the school, according to Metro Police.

Four students were detained, and the lockdown was lifted by about 1:40 p.m., police said. The investigation was ongoing, police said.

Police said they received a report about 10 a.m. that three people, possibly juveniles, were involved in a confrontation with a person near Ariville Street and Pennwood Avenue, and at least one person was believed to have a gun.

As officers arrived in the area, three people took off running and were last seen on the school campus, police said.

Clark County School District Police Capt. Ken Young said the juveniles might be students at the school.

“We believe that the students are possibly on the property, based on all of the information that we have,” Young said.

The school was on a hard lockdown, meaning nobody could enter or exit the building, Young said.

“At this point everybody is safe,” Young said. “Everybody is being taken care of inside of the school at this point.”

The altercation originally stemmed from an incident about a month ago between an adult and some juveniles, Young said. The parties saw each other again today, he said.

The adult involved in the incident told police one of the juveniles may have had a weapon, Young said.

Several parents were waiting outside the school this afternoon.

"I was at work and as soon as they told me about what happened, I freaked out and came down to see what was going on," said Tatiana Villeda, who has two sons and a daughter at the school. She said she was texting with one of her children and that they were OK.

"They just don't know what's going on. They're sitting on the floor and just waiting," she said. "They're more concerned about what's going on out here (outside)."
