A man wanted for fatally shooting another man in a south valley residential area was arrested Monday, police said in a release.

Detectives found 33-year-old Rene Alfaro in the 6300 block of Eldora Avenue, where he was arrested without incident, Metro said. Alfaro was transported to the Clark County Detention Center, where he faces one count of open murder with use of a deadly weapon.

Alfaro is charged in a Saturday evening shooting in a residential area near East Serene Avenue and South Maryland Parkway.

Officers were called just after 7 p.m. to reports of a shooting in the 1000 block of Aspen Valley Avenue, where they found a man lying in the street and suffering from gunshot wounds. The man was taken to Sunrise Hospital, where he later died, police said

A police investigation said Alfaro gunned down the man after the two had an argument in the street. Alfaro pushed the man onto the ground and shot him several times with an assault-style rifle, police said.

The shooting was the 56th homicide investigated by Metro in 2016. Since then, police have reported three more homicides in Metro’s jurisdiction.
