Letter to the Editor:

Money isn’t necessarily indication of ‘serious contender’

The quarterly candidate expenditures reported by Megan Messerly in the article “Money Matters” (Las Vegas Sun, April 22) were presented with inappropriate and misleading information. She singled out specific candidates as “serious contenders,” not based on the value and extent of the message they bring to the people or references to polling numbers, but solely upon the amount of contributions they have received.

In addition to the misleading descriptors she presented to disadvantage other candidates, she also failed to present more important messages in this age of campaign corruption and concerns for big money from special interests.

A better indication of “serious contenders” would be to write more factual information, such as: Kerry Bowers does not accept contributions nor make loans to his campaign. In fact, he keeps his expenses extremely low because everything you see, hear or read from his campaign, he designed, wrote, produced, filmed and edited himself to provide the people the most detailed message. Now that reflects a “serious contender,” one willing to make the personal sacrifices and demonstrate, through his own talents, the experience he possesses and the preparations he has made to best meet the responsibility of the office he seeks.

The writer is a Republican candidate for Congressional District 3.
