Construction of a senior living community at Union Village, a 170-acre health care complex being built in Henderson, should begin later this year, developers announced Tuesday.

Union Village recently signed an agreement with Franklin Companies to build a 400,000-square-foot senior living community that will cost $60 million.

The residential community — dubbed Franklin Park — will feature 150 units for independent living, 75 units for assisted living and 50 units for seniors suffering from memory-related problems.

This marks the first Southern Nevada project for Texas-based Franklin Companies, which develops, builds and manages senior living communities. Franklin Park at Union Village will occupy nine acres of land.

“Union Village will be the most unique and creative solution to a comprehensive senior wellness village in the United States and will be a model for the future,” Aubra Franklin, chairman and CEO of Franklin Companies, said in a statement.

Union Village developers Craig Johnson, Gary Holland and David Baker first unveiled their plans for the massive integrated health complex in 2011.

Years later, the project got off the ground when construction began on Henderson Hospital, which will anchor the complex. The $168 million hospital, a Valley Health System facility, is expected to open in late October or early November, a hospital spokesperson said.

Last year, the developers also announced that Las Vegas Athletic Clubs plans to build a fitness center at the site.

The developers have said the first phase of Union Village will include the hospital, a skilled-nursing facility, a senior living community and retail space.
