Woman who killed girl, slashed co-worker can’t withdraw plea

Brenda Stokes Hearing

Brenda Stokes appears in Las Vegas Justice Court for a hearing at the Regional Justice Center on Friday, December 28, 2012.

A former Las Vegas blackjack dealer won't be allowed to undo her guilty plea to kidnapping and killing her ex-boyfriend's 10-year-old daughter in a jealous rage just before Christmas 2012.

A judge on Wednesday reset Brenda Stokes Wilson's sentencing for May 16, after a hearing about whether court-appointed public defenders gave her bad advice before she pleaded guilty in January.

Wilson admitted during her plea that she abducted and killed Jade Morris — and slashed co-worker Joyce Rhone with a straight razor at the Bellagio casino.

The 53-year-old Wilson remains in custody. She'll face life in prison without parole for her guilty pleas to murder, kidnapping, attempted murder, burglary and mayhem.

She could have faced the death penalty if she'd been allowed to withdraw her plea and go to trial.
