Ronnie Stanley is a Baltimore Raven.

The Bishop Gorman High product was selected No. 6 overall by the Ravens at today’s NFL Draft in Chicago, becoming the highest selected Las Vegan in draft history.

Stanley, a 6-foot-6, 310-pound offensive tackle from Notre Dame, walked to the stage at the Auditorium Theatre wearing a cream-colored suit, black bow tie and new Ravens hat to greet Commissioner Roger Goodell.

He started the final 40 games in his Notre Dame career to become one of the draft’s top prospects. Despite being projected by some as a low first-round pick in 2015, he declined to enter the draft to return to Notre Dame for his senior season.

He was a second team All-American in 2015 to improve his stock into a top-10 overall pick.

Before Stanley was selected, Cal quarterback Jared Goff went No. 1 overall to the Los Angeles Rams and Carson Wentz of North Dakota State went No. 2 to the Philadelphia Eagles. Ohio State DE Joey Bosa went No. 3 to San Diego; Ohio State RB Ezekiel Elliott went No. 4 to Dallas; Florida State CB Jalen Ramsey went No. 5 to Jacksonville.

The Baltimore Sun weighed in on the Stanley pick:

Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome prioritized beefing up his offensive line over adding another piece to his defense.

Sticking to his best-player-available philosophy and with Ohio State pass rusher Joey Bosa and Florida State defensive back Jalen Ramsey both off the board, Newsome used the sixth overall pick on Notre Dame offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley, an NFL-ready prospect whose addition could mean the end of Eugene Monroe’s time with the Ravens.

Stanley, 22, visited the Ravens during the pre-draft process and was connected to them often in mock drafts. Still, his selection is a minor surprise, given the belief that the Ravens were going to use their earliest pick since 2000 to take a potential starter on defense.
