Southern Utah defensive back Miles Killebrew runs a drill at the NFL football scouting combine, Monday, Feb. 29, 2016, in Indianapolis.

Miles Killebrew didn’t have to wait long to hear his name called today in the NFL Draft.

Killebrew, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound safety from Foothill High in Henderson, was selected by the Detroit Lions in the fourth round at No. 111 overall. Killebrew was the 13th player selected today, when the draft’s final four rounds are held. One round later, Agassi Prep grad LeShaun Sims was taken by the Tennessee Titans.

Killebrew is the first player in Foothill history to be drafted. The school opened in 1999.

He weighed just 180 pounds during his senior season at Foothill and wasn’t heavily recruited by colleges. But he developed at Southern Utah, registering 243 tackles in his final two seasons and earning the reputation as a heavy-hitter in the secondary. He's the second all-time draft pick in Southern Utah history.

“It’s easy to mistake Killebrew for a linebacker, both because of his physique but also due to his hard hits,” wrote Lance Zierlein in a scouting report on NFL.com. “Tightly bundled muscle hammer with a compact frame and the thighs of a track sprinter. World-class form tackler with bad intentions behind his strikes.”

In the first round of the draft Thursday, Bishop Gorman product Ronnie Stanley was picked with the sixth overall selection.

No other locals or UNLV players are expected to be picked.
