Rain in Las Vegas knocks out power, is a factor in crashes

Updated Saturday, April 30, 2016 | 8:20 p.m.

A second round of showers was rolling through the Las Vegas Valley on Saturday evening, according to the National Weather Service, which issued a flood advisory.

About 300 NV Energy customers were without power about 8:15 p.m. Most outages were reported between downtown and areas to the east, according to the utility company.

Between midnight to 4 p.m., the Nevada Highway Patrol investigated about 90 crashes, including 36 with injuries and four hit-and-runs, the agency said on Twitter.

The showers Las Vegans woke up to Saturday morning poured about half an inch of rain in most of the valley, the Weather Service said.

Some west valley areas, such as Summerlin and Mountain's Edge, saw up to an inch of rain, meteorologist Caleb Steele said. Valley-wide, the average precipitation for all of April is 0.15 inch.

Though the sun made an appearance about noon, the clouds and rain came back about 4:30 p.m.

Normally on April 30, temperatures can reach 83 degrees — about 20 degrees higher than what the valley was experiencing this afternoon. The record-low temperature for April 30 is 35 degrees, according to Intellicast.
