Overnight thunderstorms cool off Las Vegas Valley

Today is seeing gray skies and cooler temperatures after overnight thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.

McCarran International Airport received only about .03 inches of rain, while areas including Nellis Air Force Base, Henderson and Boulder City got over an inch of rain, meteorologist John Salmen said.

Thunderstorms also brought several lightning strikes, one that caused a fire at a Henderson house early this morning.

Today’s high temperature, originally forecast for 99 degrees, is now expected to top out at 85, Salmen said.

There is a 40 percent chance of rain late this afternoon, Salmen said.

Friday’s high is forecast at 103 degrees, with a low of 83 degrees in the morning, but temperatures could drop if there are more storms, Salmen said. There is a 20 percent chance for rain in the morning and a 10 percent chance in the afternoon.
