State OKs $44.5 million for low-income, senior housing

CARSON CITY — The state Board of Finance today approved issuing $44.5 million in bonds for low-cost housing in Clark County for seniors and families who get rent subsidies.

The biggest bond issue through the state Housing Division was for $17 million for the acquisition and renovation of 175 units at the Sierra Pointe and Granada apartments in Las Vegas.

Rent will remain the same after the apartments are upgraded, State Housing Administrator C.J. Manthe said. Families pay 30 percent of their income for rent.

Bonds totaling $15 million were approved to build 120 units of affordable housing for seniors at the Rose Gardens Apartments for seniors in North Las Vegas.

A third project calls for construction of a 77-unit apartment complex for low-income families called Arroyo Pines in Henderson.
