UNLV head coach Tony Sanchez shares a lighter moment as his team holds a scrimmage at Nellis AFB on Saturday, August 15, 2015.

UNLV football coaches started their day by receiving a verbal commitment from a playmaking wide receiver as the sun was rising.

About 12 hours later, as the sun was slowly setting on another Las Vegas summer day, Tony Sanchez’s staff scored another wide receiver commitment.

Johnny Johnson, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound class of 2017 prospect from Chandler High in Arizona, orally committed in the evening. He joins Houston’s Jaelon Darden, who committed in the morning.

Darden, a high school quarterback who will play receiver in college, is a three-star prospect with scholarship offers from Virginia Tech and others.

Johnson is also a three-star prospect and considered the third-best wide receiver recruit in Arizona by Scout.com. Arizona is a hotbed for talent, and his high school Chandler is nationally known.

Johnson caught 37 passes for 552 yards and two touchdowns as a junior.

Commitments are nonbinding until signing day, meaning both players can still be recruited.
