letters to the editor:

Trump only acts to help himself

In recent news, Khizr Khan, father of fallen Muslim American Capt. Humayun Khan, stated that Donald Trump “sacrificed nothing and no one.” In response, Trump stated that he sacrificed by creating “thousands” and “tens of thousands of jobs” — a theme similar to Ivanka Trump’s in her speech at the Republican National Convention in which she said her father would always protect Americans and not let them down.

This reminds me of the lyrics in Paul Simon’s new song “The Werewolf,” which include “Life is a lottery/A lot of people lose/And the winners, the grinners/With money-colored eyes/Eat all the nuggets/Then they order extra fries ... Ignorance and arrogance/The national debate ...”

Trump hit the “lottery” by being born into wealth and, instead of sacrificing and doing work for the greater good, used his wealth in the legal system to file at least four bankruptcies, which allowed him to renege on thousands of promises/contracts and stiff thousands of vendors.

No, Mr. Trump, your arrogance prevents you from recognizing you’ve made no sacrifices but instead used your wealth to work the legal system, which benefited only you. At the same time, you turned your back on many Americans — so you could “eat all the nuggets” and “order extra fries.”
