L.V. Council clears complaint to discipline crime-plagued Larry’s Villa

The Las Vegas City Council approved a complaint for disciplinary action Wednesday against Larry’s Villa, a crime-plagued bar and strip club that city officials have deemed a public nuisance.

City records indicate Larry’s Villa, located at 2401 W. Bonanza Road, has business licenses for operating as a tavern, topless club and tobacco dealer and featuring restricted gaming and a coin amusement machine.

The disciplinary complaint alleges the establishment has been “conducted in an unlawful, illegal and impermissible manner” and has failed or refused to comply with conditions of the business license.

Nearly 500 calls for emergency services originated from Larry’s Villa from January 2014 through June 2016, according to the complaint. Those calls included a homicide, stabbings, robberies, drug-related incidents, drunken drivers and stolen vehicles, among other disturbances.

By comparison, Cheetahs Gentleman’s Club, located at 2112 Western Ave., generated 118 calls for service in that same time period, city officials said.

The most recent homicide at Larry’s Villa occurred June 19 when a fight among patrons spilled into the parking lot, where 40-year-old Alxavier Woods was fatally shot. The day prior, a drug-related argument led to a stabbing in the parking lot.

Larry’s Villa has been the site of two other homicides — one in August 2006 and another in June 2013, city officials said.

The complaint and city business records list Brent Douglas Howard as the operator and licensee of Larry’s Villa. Calls to reach Howard or other managers were not returned as of Wednesday evening.

The council’s complaint approval sets the stage for a disciplinary hearing, which gives the licensee a chance to respond to allegations before any action is taken. Ultimately, the disciplinary complaint could result in a suspension or revocation of the establishment’s business licenses.

Opened by Larry Lapenta in 1972, Larry’s Villa soon became a destination hangout for tourists and locals looking to experience a slice of Sin City’s historic adult playground.

The disciplinary hearing is set for 1 p.m. Sept. 21.
