Rebels Practice With Marvin Menzies

Returning point guard Jalen Poyser speaks with reporters during UNLV basketball practice at Mendenhall Center on the UNLV campus Monday, August 1, 2016. The Rebels are practicing in preparation for a tournament later this month in the Bahamas.

Sophomore guard Jalen Poyser scored 28 points and the Rebels wrapped up their exhibition tour in the Bahamas this afternoon with a 102-87 victory against the Providence Storm.

Poyser, one of three Rebels returning from last year’s roster, shot 10-of-15 from the floor, including 5-of-10 on 3-pointers, with five assists to two turnovers. Senior Christian Jones posted his third double-double, finishing with 15 points and 10 rebounds, and sophomore Kris Clyburn joined him with 19 points and 12 rebounds.

Seniors Tyrell Green (14 points), another returner from last year, and Uche Ofoegbu (15) also scored in double figures. UNLV had its best 3-point shooting of the week, hitting 14 of 31, and shot 49 percent overall from the field. And as they did in Tuesday’s victory, the Rebels dominated the glass, finishing with a 47-25 rebounding advantage.

UNLV returns to Las Vegas this weekend and practice begins in October. The Rebels hope that by then they will have a couple more players as junior Dwayne Morgan continues to recover from hip surgery and freshman Cheickna Dembele awaits eligibility news from the NCAA.
