Dog that fatally mauled Las Vegas boy had fight history, official says

Authorities say a dog that mauled a 9-year-old Las Vegas boy this week fought another dog in the same neighborhood last month.

Clark County spokesman Dan Kulin said Friday the owner of the 3-year-old pit bull mixed-breed was issued a citation July 11 because his dog hadn't been neutered or vaccinated.

Officials haven't made the man's name public.

Kulin says that after Derion Jayvon Stevensons was fatally injured Wednesday, the man said he no longer owned the dog, named Left Eye.

Las Vegas police are investigating, but the man hasn't been accused of a crime.

The Clark County coroner says Derion died of head and neck injuries. His death was ruled an accident.

The dog has been euthanized.
