Letter to the editor:

GOP hinders the right to vote

Has the irony been lost on the GOP’s flag bearer? As Donald Trump complains about the election being rigged against him, Republicans in a number of states have passed laws to circumvent the vote of a whole class of people.

It is not surprising that many of these laws have been struck down by the courts as being discriminatory against the elderly, blacks and poor people — not your typical Republican voters. Republicans are the ones trying to rig elections by denying thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands, of their right to vote.

Trump warns of people voting 10 times. The Brennan Center for Justice, part of New York University’s School of Law, reports voter fraud is very rare, and voter impersonation is nearly non-existent. Yet, Republicans have continued to use the claim of some imaginary widespread fraud to pass these unconstitutional vote-suppressing measures.

Trump is right about one thing. If elected, Hillary Clinton will nominate judges who will make sure every American is able to exercise their right to vote.
