Henderson doctor loses license over bogus oxycodone prescriptions

The state Board of Medical Examiners has revoked Henderson physician Simmon Wilcox’s license after his conviction in Utah for writing 600 false prescriptions for oxycodone, a powerful painkiller.

He was arrested in Utah on suspicion of writing prescriptions to people who used phony names to gain 81,000 oxycodone pills that were distributed in Utah and Nevada from 2010 to 2013.

He was sentenced to 100 months — more than eight years — at a federal prison in Utah. Prosecutors said he used money from the sales to pay for things such as house cleaning and car repairs.

The Nevada board filed a complaint against Wilcox in March and revoked his license Friday. He operated the Rock Star Medical Institute in Henderson.
